LAYERING NECKLACES | A GUIDE

a woman wearing two layered silver necklaces

I love to layer my necklaces. It really helps extend the life and use of each of my necklaces when I can wear more than one at a time. Plus it's just fun.

Whether you're struggling to create the perfect layered look or simply trying to find the best length for you I've narrowed down 5 tips to help you out!

WHICH LENGTH

Necklaces will hang uniquely on different body types.

The chains on the right are (from top to bottom) 16", 18", 20" and 24".

This model is petite and these lengths may not look the same on your neck.

Below you'll see the same 4 necklace lengths on me. I am 5'8" and a size 10. You can see the pendant on the 16" chain hits at about the same position (just below the clavicle), but you can also see that the chain comes to less of a point where the pendant is, indicating that there is some tightness around the neck.

Personally, I do not enjoy the way the 16" chain is fitted around my neck and tend to reach for chains at least 18" or longer.

I find that I wear a 20 + 24" chain the most, and often add a 3" extension to my 24" chain so I can wear it at 27". Available on my website.

5 TIPS

➕ layer 2 necklaces of different lengths. This is the easiest way to start. I love 18” and 24” myself. The model here is wearing a 16", 18", 20", Fortunate Necklace.

➕ choose a larger pendant for the longest necklace

➕ choose either something without a pendant for the short necklace like a chain with a fun link OR a small pendant.

add an extension to your necklaces so you can adjust the length depending on the neckline of your shirt.

➕ mix your metals! Silver + gold tones look amazing together! I promise!

I really appreciate this post. Is there any way to avoid getting the necklaces tangled? I love layering different lengths but it seems impossible to keep them from getting messy & tangled up. Any additional tips would be awesome.
